Good news but not great but actually good if you look at the big picture. He does not have to wear the patch to school anymore! BUT he does have to wear it at all other times. So all weekend and every day after school until the time he goes to bed. He also must still wear the glasses at all times, even without the patch. The reason for him still having to wear it is because since his last appt. in April his vision has improved dramatically, which the dr did not expect. He expected that it would have slowed down by this point. So if it is still improving it can also still worsen so he has to continue with the patch. So really that is good but doesn't seem that good to Sean since he just wants to be done with it. Like I said he started out with 20/200 vision-in April it was 20/40 and today it is 20/25. Those numbers are WITH his glasses. This schedule will last until April and then he will be checked again.

Well at least it is a step in the right direction. Hopefully in april he will be done for good with the patch.

I'm so glad that Sean is responding well to wearing the glasses and patch. Sounds like it won't be too much longer.

I think its great news. It would be wonderful if he didn't have to wear the patch ever but at least he won't have to wear it in school where all the kids see it. I do wish he didn't need the glasses but I'm glad his eyes are still getting better. If that 20/200 was also with his glasses on, then there has been a dramatic change and he will have normal vision now at least. A lot of people wear glasses so he will still be able to fit in with the other kids.
Will he be able to wear contacts when he is old enough to take care of them?

Even with the correction at our first appt. his vision in that eye was 20/200 which is legally blind, he could not even see the giant E at the top of the eye chart. So yes, it has been a tremendous improvement. I think once it stops improving he will not need the glasses either, the vision in his other eye is 20/20. He won't need to wear them again until he drives so by that point he should be able to handle contacts.

Sean's 2nd part of the evaluation was supposed to be today but she had to cancel. UGH! It is now scheduled for the 21st. I am really hoping to have this completed and have the results before his parent/teacher conference in November.

Oh, I bet you were disappointed. Maybe when you go in for the next appointment you can let them know you need the information for the confrences. If they know ahead of time, I bet they'll try to help you out. Hang in there...your half-way there!

Today was the 2nd part (psychological) of Sean's evaluation. They are going to mail me all the results and then we have a meeting to go over everything and they will give their recommendations. She said it would probably be about a week to two so I am hopeful I will have everything before his parent/teacher conference.
