Listening to the quiet sounds of the forest
Crinkle sound of leaves landing
On his dirty blonde hair
So still he stands
Dark blue eyes intense with concentration
Ready to respond
Quick snap of a twig
His eyes move to the right
But not another muscle moves
His breath is quicker
You can hear the slow deep breathes of his beast
Prowling the perimeter
There’s a power within you
A chosen one to care for this child
You find yourself watching
Feeling helpless,
Hopeless for this child
You start to question everything
Why doesn’t he move?
What does he hear?
Does he really have a fiend,
Stalking his dreams?
What is he waiting for?
WHY DOESN’T HE MOVE?
What am I supposed to do?
Why me?
What if I fail?
What if I’m rejected?
What if I get hurt?
WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?
Your love could change his world
Your praise could distance his beast
Your warmth could change the season
Your understanding could move him
Could lift him
Could save him
Instead you ridicule
You think you’re raising a strong boy
Face your demons!
Stand up tall
Stop acting weird
Just be normal!
More and more you push
Less and less he delivers
You’re disappointed, and confused
Why won’t he just trust me
And do what I say?
What is wrong with him?
That little man stands in fear
His back to his death
Trying to please you and failing
Trying so hard to get it right
But frozen in terror
Hurting more as he watches your disappointment in him
The forest floor is buried in autumn
His muscles tense as a howl is released
He starts to move and we all hold our breath
He turns his back on you
He might as well die, he thinks,
He deserves it
Crinkle sound of leaves landing
On his dirty blonde hair
So still he stands
Dark blue eyes intense with concentration
Ready to respond
Quick snap of a twig
His eyes move to the right
But not another muscle moves
His breath is quicker
