Shannon's teacher has started calling me every Friday & together her & I make up a schedule in her weekly planner so Shannon knows exactly what she should do in each class each day. This past week was the first week with the new system & boy did it not go good! Today the teacher called, I thought to schedule next week, but it didn't turn out that way. It turns out that Shannon only did about 1/3 of everything she was supposed to. so today I woke her up early & sat with her & helped her go back & do everything she had missed. The deal was that if she worked & finished everything except English, she could go to her scheduled sleepover tonight. We managed to get it all done..WHEW! But it was NOT fun! That child cannot retain info. Now that she's schooling at home, I'm really seeing how the detriment of no working memory affects her work! I let her leave the English for Sunday since she enjoys English & she'll have all day to read the stories & do the quizzes.

What if you told her that any work that was not completed during the week had to be done on Saturday before she could do anything else? If the work is done, then she gets her weekend off. That would give her the incentive to put in a little more effort and ask for help when she needs it.
One thing I did find with homeschooling was that my son had to accept the fact that he still had school even if he didn't go out of the house for it and even though I was his teacher. We had flexibility as to when it was done during the day but it had to be done. The upside of this is that if we know the kid tried hard and still couldn't do it, we have the option of giving them a break which they wouldn't have gotten in school.
