Well after mulling over my last post and some of your responses, and after reading all the post about Daytrana on here and every other page I could find, I think I am going to ask my 8 year old ds psych about switching to Daytrana in the morning.
In my last post, I said he is on Focalin, over the max dose and its still not lasting, major lapses between doses. Quite a few of you said Daytrana, and I said I didn't think he would keep it on. But after researching it, and talking with my husband and my ds about it, he is willing to give it a try. I have bought some skin stuff to keep his skin moisturized and I hope to be prepared for all of that.
My question is, if my ds maxes out on all meds, Concerta 54 mg not enough (which is like 12 mg ritalin 3X a day), Focalin over max of 20 mg a day-- taking 30 mg a day, is the max dose of Daytrana going to be enough?? I hope we are not looking at messing up his school. He is doing great with the Focalin, it's just the lapses. Does anyone have a child that maxes out all meds and found Daytrana to work at a lower dose??
We cant do Vyvanse because that is an Adderall based drug, and we just tried that before Focalin and it caused bad moods and meltdowns. But I am also going to ask about going up to 72 mg Concerta which is over the max for his age, non- generic meds, and Strattera. But any info on the patch and kids being maxed out would help greatly!! Thanks again!!

My son never used the Daytrana patch but I'm sure someone here has experience with it.

I also have not had experience with Daytrana, but its worth a shot. Since your son is maxing out AND it's not lasting very long, I think this would be worth a try.
From what I've heard, it does start out slow. I heard other parents state that they apply it while their children are still sleeping because it takes a good 2 hours to kick in. The advantage of this med for you is that you can decide when to remove it. I would think that it should get him through the day a little better.
Keep us updated on how this works for you and I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed for you.

Thanks katiekat and bugsmom. I am planning to put it on him at 6:30 so by 8:30 school time he should be ready to go. His psych is starting him out on 15 mg patch which worries me because I dont think it will be enough and I dont even want to hear from the school, lol. His dr said that he has had kids like mine maxed out on 72 mg of Concerta be able to take 15 or 20 mg of Daytrana due to the fact that none gets lost in the stomach it goes straight to the bloodstream. Gosh I hope so, we could really use a break. I mean the meds work for him just not long enough!!!! Thanks again and I will keep you posted!!
