Hi all, I have some questions about summer little league baseball and adhd meds. This is the first year my ds will be playing little league ball. We will be switching him back to Concerta for the summer when the season will be starting. If I give him his Concerta around 8 am it wears off generally around 4-5 pm. Then his dr usually gives him a short acting dose of Ritalin but this only lasts him 2.5 hours including the 45 minutes to kick in. So if he has late games that dont start until 7, what do you do? Do you wait and give the Ritalin right before the game starts and deal with the lapse of meds in between? or what if there is a double header, one game at 5 and then a game at 7? His meds would not last through both? I would appreciate anyone who has experience with their adhd kids and playing baseball.
Currently he is taking Vyvanse 50 mg for school, but we need to take a break from it for the summer so he does not build a tolerance to it. The doctor wants to put him back on 54 mg of Concerta, which I told him is not enough, so also what do you do if the dr wont allow your child to take more medicine? I try to tell him that for church and ballgames this is not enough, but he insists and only wants to give 5 mg short acting in the evening, but this is not enough either. You would figure with an activity like baseball it would be, but sitting waiting his turn, even at practice is impossible. He swings very wild and throws wild when he does not have enough medicine, I don't want to give him too much, but I don't know what to do. Thanks for your help with both issues!!
