Sean's IEP meeting on Friday actually went very well. It's amazing how all of a sudden they have realized all the problems he has in school. They fought it for so long but now they are actually increasing what they think he needs. Next year he will be going to the resource room for reading, writing, AND math. They are increasing his amount of time with the OT and also his counseling sessions went from 1x a month to 1x a week next year. They strongly urged us to do summer school (which we are) for reading, writing, and math and also the OT feels he needs to continue with that over the summer. They provide transportation as well. We got to meet his teacher for next year and I liked her. She doesnt seem wishy-washy like this years and took pages and pages of notes. When she talked about what is expected of 3rd graders and what they do in 3rd grade I about died though. The stuff she was talking about is so far out of Sean's reach. I know that 3rd grade is a big change and I hope he can keep up. Overall it went really well and was so different than past meetings. I guess Im not a crazy mom making things up about my kid after all huh? Paying for that private evaluation was so very worth it.

That is excellent news! Now if only they'd pay you for the pain and suffering they caused!!!

WOW! You got some awesome services for him. Don't let them think for a minute that it wasn't all you. You have been so steadfast on helping him get this. Congratulations!!!

That is such great news Katie! When Tiff started going to the resource room it helped so much. And since she is pulled out for tests now so as to have no distractions it is great.
I have my IEP end of year meeting next Wednesday, where the middle school Special Ed teacher will be invited to come to review Tiffany's needs. So fingers crossed that they will still follow her IEP into the middle school.

It should be a seamless transition into middle school, Uni. Shannon's was. WOW! You got some awesome services for him. Don't let them think for a minute that it wasn't all you. You have been so steadfast on helping him get this. Congratulations!!! I second that! We have watched you sweat, worry, cry, beg, & push everyone in the school system. You were HUGELY instrumental in Sean getting what he needs. You never gave up on him! I'm so happy things are starting to work in his favor finally!
