Good News regarding accommodations for taking the GRE! So Mr J, as I call him, has had a very good academic year and is thinking about taking a GRE general and GRE subject test for practice during the next school year. I cringed remembering the six months of jumping through hoops to produce documentation and frustrating attempts to correspond with College Board in an effort to get accoms for him. Since ETS (Educational Testing Services) and College Board are two separate agencies regarding accommodations I anticipated another six months of the same thing. Hopefully no more! ETS relies on the offices for disabilities at colleges and universities to sign a statement that the documentation they have meets the ETS criteria for receiving accommodations and that the student has been using the same type of accommodation at college which they are requesting for the GRE. ETS does have criteria that the documentation needs to be current, (5 years for LD and 3 for ADHD), In addition, it seems that if an adult measure was used like the WAIS-III that may not need to be redone because IQ seems to become stable in adulthood. So the timing of when J was tested in high school seems to be helping now and it will be important to coordinate the timing of the request for accomms with when they they offer the tests and the dates of past tests..
