Summer Challenge

This thread could actually go in the kids section also.

I know all kids love summer, but how does it affect ADHD adults? I for one have a hard time with the whole summer thing! I hate to transition from know school hours and activities to the summer ones of Basketball camp, soccer camp, chores, etc........ that seem to be on random schedules and half days or whatever. I think schools should go all year with breaks here and there, not a 3 month stretch of us parents working and trying to manage our ADD families!!!

I love summer and any lengthy vacation time. I love not having to struggle to get my son off to school on time each day, see that he is doing his school work, etc. He isn't hyperactive. If he were, I might feel differently.

I know what you mean LC, and I'm not an Adder. Although I love summer, (especially this summer after homeschooling all year), I don't like the randomness of the days. Josh thrives in a controlled, predictable, got to know kind of day and summer can be tough on him. He always has to know whats going on the next day and it can drive me crazy.

So, although summer is nice, its not always nice for my little adder.

That is exactly how I am CG, summer is a relief. No dragging him (verbally, LOL) out of bed each morning, no constant worry over completing homework, though this year he did fabulously with that...I still worried and asked him each day...he is unmedicated (stimulant-wise) in the summer, so those side affects are not bothering him...I love summer too! But like you say, if he was hyperactive it would likely be another story.
