That was interesting, thanks Misty. I can understand why he isn't thrilled with the notion people could abort a child if they can test to see if the child is autistic. It does say, in a way, autistic people aren't wanted. I'm a little confused on how I feel about it. I know I'm totally against abortion but if they can isolate the gene then that debunks a lot of theories on other things causing autism, like vaccines.

I can understand his concern but on the other hand, isolating the gene could result in medical advances which would enable us to treat autism in the womb or even after birth to lessen the symptoms. His case might have made life very uncomfortable for him growing up but think of the many people who have full blown autism and will never function in society. If they can be helped to have a happier, more productive life we really should do that.
I do think about the implications of further research and the abortion issue bothers me. I don't believe in abortion so that is a concern but I don't see how we can justify not doing all we can to help anyone who has to live with something which can be very debilitating.
