Hello I'm an 8th grade student who has strugled with being able to do my best in school with ADHD, OCD, ODD, and Bipolar. I have a twin who does not have them so I am usually shunned by my peers in my community and at my school. I am celebrating 2 years of being stabel and am still trying to be the best I can be. My family has now accepted this but I still have trouble being accepted by others.

welcome Jess I'm Sim. I also have bipolar. I don't have any of the other stuff though. You shouldn't be made to feel bad about who you are. Thats what makes you... YOU! Just be happy and try not to let the other kids bug you about it. Maybe see the school councelor (if you have one). And welcome!

Hi Jess,

My 4th grade teacher read "Joey Pigza swallows a key" A book about a boy my age with ADHD to our class so they could understand me better. My 5th grade teacher however made no attempt to ever care that I needed a little extra help. When I told the kids in my class that I had ADHD one actually said, "Stay away from us we don't want to catch it!" And of course they avoided me. One parent accually told me I could not go near them. I was heartbroken. I started to miss school more and more every week.

Thanks everyone, I've worked hard to be the person I am today and I'm going to do the best I can. I accually won the 7th grade CA (special education class) award for my class this past year. Now I'm looking foward to next this upcoming school year as an 8th grader. My principal told my mother that I'm one of our schools succes stories.

Thats wonderful! You have a great attitude regardless of the cruel things people do and say. It amazes me that adults are so ignorant about ADHD even in this day and age.

Welcome to the site, Jess! i'm glad you found us. You definitely won't be shunned here. Its amazing that any adult would stay away from a kid just because they have ADHD. And I agree--you have a great attitude. That will certainly work to your advantage.

You are welcome here Jess! We'll accept you just as you are and hopefully we can share some things we have learned that may help you. I bet you can share things you have learned that will help us with our kids. My son and I both have ADHD. He doesn't have the hyper part but he is inattentive. I have twin grandsons but they are still toddlers.
