I was just curious as to when you should let your child start making their own decision??

i had a hard time to deciding between 18, never or when they move out because as long as i am concerned they have to take it and i know my son knows he has to take it because he knows he feels so much better but i rather them taking it tell they are at least an adult or 18 and they can make there own decisions

Paul was 15 pretty close to 16 when he said he didn't "need" it anymore! I always trusted his judgement so I said let's give it a try! It turned out he was right...he is 19 now and still not taking anything.
I also know that if in the future he thought he might need it....he would go see the doc.

My kids are still young all under9, and I have been asked by my daughter if she will always have to take it? I told her I didn't know. My biggest thing is at what age do you start teaching them to make their own decisions(wrong or right)so that they can learn by them? I can't tell her she needs to learn how to do this on her own and then give her no choice about meds.

I can't tell her she needs to learn how to do this on her own and then give her no choice about meds. Yes you can. You tell her she can start making decisions about somethings, but you, as the parent get veto rights. Also, some things are too important to let her decide on her own...you could discuss those things & come to a decision together (again, reserving veto rights). By deciding together she'll also learn to make GOOD decisions & see the process it takes (weighing pros & cons, etc).

I feel that in High School at 15 they can make some decisions and if my daughter is struggling and she herself feels that she needs a little medication to help her focus that is okay. Misty, I like the idea of deciding together with her. For now we feel it is our decision and so far she has done fine on a 504 plan without meds.
