Seeing that the International Dyslexia Conference begins on Halloween, I wonder how many of you still celebrate Halloween and what you do? We LOVE it here, but I'm wondering if we are one of the few remaining families that do.

My son goes out trick or treating for a while and we pass out candy. I don't decorate or anything. I would be very happy if there were no such thing.

I am a bit old to go out Trick or Treating, In fact i have NEVER gone Trick or Treating. I live in wuite a rough neighbour hood and its kinda hard to go out and do this. My 3 childhood friends all were born on 29th October and for their birthday's we use to have a halloween party. Every year we did this until we went to high school then it stopped. I think it is fantastic. My way to spend Halloween is to buy a SCARY a really SCARY dvd and watch that along with bobbing for apples.

Of course I loved Halloween as a kid and I love to give out candy to this day and see what the little itty bitty ones are dressed up as. Soooo cute! That part I enjoy totally.
But it's been in the last 7 or so years I started to not like what the holiday represents historically so I'm not all gung-ho about it.
I am really surprised they started the conference on Halloween because I do think many families still celebrate it. Not like they used to though. Most of the families I know don't let their kids go trick or treating door to door but rather go to the malls to get candy and then to someones house for a party. Kind of sad because I think it is a fun time for kids.
I voted even though I don't have kids at home because I'm still invited to come over to some get-togethers for the kids which is what most do anymore.

I used to take the kids, but they are older now and we have a party here the weekend before and rent PG-13 scary movies and they have a sleepover!! On Halloween the girls hand the candy out and we still decorate the house.

We love Halloween. We all dress up and i usually pass out candy with my daughter. Shes still at that age where shes gotta scream at every monster and she doesnt want to trick or treat. My son will go out trick or treating for a while then hes back trying to scare the little kids. But we decorate and put on scary music.

We (Tiff an d I) dress up, we trick or treat until she can't move anymore and do I decorate! I was in Party City today and had to get some new things. Last year we had a Halloween party for several of Tiff's friends.

Sadly we don't celebrate it here. Once I tried to bring up this topic with my students in class, but they almost fired me from school, LOL. I work for an extremely catholic school and they don't consider this celebration good for their beliefs; so, I had to take off a pumpkin I had posted on my bulletin board The only thing I can tell you: "My daughter won't go to the school I work". They are really wonderful people, but I do hate exaggerations. I just thought it would have been fun for the girls.
