Boys more likely to have ADHD - study
January 12 2006 at 02:05PM
Washington - Just under eight percent of American children aged between four and 17 were diagnosed with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder in 2003, and more than half of them are being treated with drugs, the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has reported.
Boys are more than twice as likely to be diagnosed with ADHD than girls, especially boys from poorer families, the CDC said.
The 2003 survey is the first comprehensive analysis of precisely how many US children have the disorder and how many are on medication for it, the CDC said in a weekly report in death and disease.

7.8% ! The estimated figures were 2 to 5% and then were upped to 3 to7%. Now an actual survey has been done to show what its actually at. Even taking into account that some are misdiagnosed, we are much closer to the actual figures. (There are also some who should be diagnosed but aren't).
I clicked on some other articles also and they were very informative.

This is interesting .. Just looking around me at the kids and adults I know I would say about 1 in 10 would be fairly accurate .. !! However, I am in the UK and were are nowhere near as good at recognising and treating adhd as the US is and our teachers are certainly not programmed to recognise it!! ... (but we are getting better and better at it!) ... Our "official" figures therefore probably look ridiculously low but they (IMHO) would be wrong ... because the reality is that there are a lot of kids and adults out there who have never seen a doctor AT ALL on account of their add/adhd!! ...

Jacob my 8 year old grandson has 4 kids in his class alone who are ADHD!! I wonder what the odds are on that?
