Hello & welcome! You'll find plenty of support & advice here. Can you give us a bit of info? Is your son on meds? What kind of issues are you dealing with at home & at school? What have you already tried? We can better help you if we know a little bit. Its great that he's in a special school. He's probably getting better educational help there than he would in a mainstream school & thats a great start!

Hi, thanks for making me feel welcome. Well Archie has Phennergen to help him sleep but apart from that no other meds... but the school wants me to consider medicating him with Ritalin or similar, and they've sent a report to my GP. This is whats worrying me at the moment... do I medicate?, don't I? I don't want him to 'Zombie' out, or feel 'high' or anything like that, I know nothing about it all and it scares me. But on the other hand I want him to learn or at least have more of a chance, (he's at the level of a 4 yr old now)...

My husband never let me medicate my son for ADHD and I have always regretted it. He seems to be doing better since puberty but I believe he would have found life more manageable if we could have given him meds.
Meds aren't for everyone but the ones they help find the difference amazing. You may have to try a few different ones to get the one that works best if you do decide to try. The correct med or med combo at the correct dose won't make him high or zombie like. They will make the ADHD symptoms less severe.
To my knowledge there is no med for autism and I know nothing about the global development delay. You may find they aren't quite as bad once the ADHD is controlled.
I'm assuming with all the issues he has he is seeing a therapist or psych. I would definitely discuss this with him or her so you can have an idea of what to expect and what to look for in terms of helping or side effects.
Keep us posted on what you decide to do and how it works for you. Also, please join us in the hanging out with friends section here. Its so nice to be able to "hang out" with people who understand what you are going through. We'd love to hear from you there.

I pretty much agree with what Charliegirl said. Just a bit to add: Many parents and adults with adhd find they can concentrate much better, thus helping them learn/accomplish tasks.
By the way, don't let the school pressure you into doing something you aren't sure is right for your son or you aren't comfortable with yet. They are not your sons doctor or psychiatrist/therapist so they should not be suggesting meds to you and especially pushing you to put him on meds.
