I got a phone call on Friday at work from my child's Principal letting me know someone had stolen Annette's yearbook and tried to pass it off as her own. The girl asked Annette to sign her yearbook and look through it since she did not get one herself. The girl made sure Annette got distracted and stole her yearbook, crossed off all of her messages and signatures, and name. The girl even wrote things all over the book and had her buddies sign, no one said a word. It took a teacher who saw it and took it to the Principal. The girl tried to say Annette gave it to her, not true. When the Principal asked Annette she did not even realize the book was gone.
The Principal did inform us the girl was getting suspended 5 days and will be missing her exams (may fail because of this) and they are going to make her parents replace the book. Call me a bleeding heart but I am glad they took action but think they should allow her to take her exams just maybe have her do it in the detention room then leave. I just hate it if the girl fails her entire year over it but yes she needs punishment. If I am crazy let me know.

You're not crazy. The girl definitely needs to learn not to steal but failing her grade is a bit much.
I have to feel sorry for her. Not being able to afford a yearbook is hard on a child. It doesn't justify stealing but I can understand why she was so tempted.
My kids didn't get yearbooks every year either because we couldn't afford it so I can really understand how hard it is on the little girl to see everyone else with one and want one so badly.

Jill, Maybe if you give the principle a call and say you wish the girl would be allowed to take the exams, maybe they will let her. I don't think they need to punish her for the whole years work she has done. That is a bit severe.
I do hope the parents give Annette a replacement yearbook or if that doesn't happen, you'd think the school would have a least a few extra copies.
Glad that teacher was able to spot it. I wonder how she noticed?

the girl was still suspended however was able to take her exams but not with her classmates. Annette told me she saw her but she had to leave after wards. The girl did apologize to Annette and my girl told the Principal to let her keep the old book on her own. That was weird she had exams yet they had a full day of school up until Wednesday this week. My girl is now done with 6th grade woo hooo! As for passing I am not worried her grades were between 90-100 before going into exams and going over the study guides with her she knew the material did not have to study. I remember I had to study my brains out not my kid.
Today this crazy person is taking Annette and her new group of friends to Darien Lake (4) pre teens. Actually all were invited only 3 going it was hubby's idea. Annette is thrilled to be with her pals. The school guidance counselor along with the boys and girls club director came up with a girls group to help girls who had fitting in difficulty and girls who did not and wham Annette got 4 new friends she did not have at the time the other one turned on her. At the end of the year I did give both gift cards as a thank you

I didn't know Annette was such a smarty. Don't feel bad, Jill, I had to study hard too to get a passing grade in most of my subjects. What a blessing she does so well in school academically.
I am glad they let that girl take the exams. That would have been a punishment that didnt fit the crime, if they didn't.
Did Annette get a new book then from the parents of that girl. I hope so.

Yes Annette got a a new book same day. Now we wait for her final grades to come in the mail but like I said I am not concerned. Annette is tickled for the summer reading homework is only 1 book this year and she has one of them that she has read 2x at home never took it into school and has to write a book report. She began her book report already and yes I am allowing her to use the book however summer reading will go on. Annette needs to bring up her reading level although she has passed she needs to read more so I got her the rest of the Harry Potter books she is on book 3 now for the past two months I will have her finish it and go on to the next. I told her I want her to do 30 minutes per day and will allow some slack during heavy activity days but will expect more on non busy days.
As for the Darien Lake thing turned out to be a mess first of all we were running late then Annette claimed to be ill we thought it was nerves turns out she was sick. My girl after picking up her friends was overly quiet and on the way threw up all over herself and the back seat. We detoured home and she did have a temp and her father took her friends anyways for 4-5 hours. Her friends felt so bad for her they pitched in and purchased a stuffed cat Annette wanted last time at the amusement park. I love it 3 friends who really care my girl finally has a group of friends!

Annette's friends were very lucky the whole thing wasn't called off (probably what I would have done) and got to go anyway. It sounds like Annette's freinds are very thoughful. I hope she is feeling better today.
