Once again not sure where to put this and I thought someone posted about this before but I cant find it.
Has anyone heard of absence seizures?
The reason I ask is because a neighbor of mine and I were hanging out and Dakota was sitting with us. We he was just staring off. He does this all the time. And then he like kinda too as if nothing
I thought it was just his ADHD or something but My friend asked if I had him tested for absence seizures.
I did some research and watched some videos and wow...I think he might. Some are definitely worse than others.
Juts wanted to put that out there...

I don't know a lot about them aside from they are easily mistaken for just "spacing out" or "being distracted" or just part of adhd.
One thing you can do is try to get a response from your son when you suspect he is having one by touching him and saying his name. If he is having one, he will not respond.
That is about all I know. Most definately something to be brought up with his doctor.

Thanks JJ. I plan on making an appt when I take him for his next psych appt. Where I take him is a place called the Marcus Autism Center. But they test and evaluate for EVERYTHING! Its a school as well for special needs and other issues I believe but I just take him to see his spych.
And when he "spaces out" sometimes he responds and other times he doesnt.
My neighbor saw 2 times that afternoon that he didnt respond and thats why she brought up. She has some experience with this.

Something else you can do to find out is ask him what he was thinking about. If he can tell you he may have been hyperfocusing. If he hasn't a clue, it could be petit mal, aka absence seizures.
My nephew used to have them and you could have beat him up and he wouldn't have responded to you during a seizure.

My husband has seizures from his head injury & I have had these same fears in the past when he zones out. CG's tip is a good one. If I ask Bill what he was thinking about he can always tell me & that did set my mind at ease. I think with a child its best to get it checked out because they often have trouble putting things into words anyway & you'll feel better knowing for sure.

Agreed Misty.
I have been trying to do some research in my free time. And absence seizures are usually grown out of thank God if thats whats going on. I just feel like a paranoid mom tho, ya know?
My poor lil guy has already been thru so much. Ugh!
Hey what one more test...lol?

Oh and btw Misty, How is Bill doing if you dont mind me asking?? I don't mind at all, Aimee. He's a bit depressed because Summer is here & he wants to be out doing yard work & other things he cannot do, but otherwise he's doing well. Tomorrow he gets his 3rd round of Botox on his right arm which eases the spasticity enough for him to practice using it a bit. Eventually the pathways from his brain will be rebuilt & he can stop the Botox treatments. Amazing what modern medicine can accomplish!
