I could not help noticing that my DS who is 41/2 with ADHD continuously keeps touching his doodle?? Now i have mentioned it to DW and she has noticed this too? Obviously we know little boys will do this but, but my goodness sometimes he just wont leave it alone could this also be an ADHD trait??
Sorry if this is a sensitive subject.

I think that exploring oneself is kind of age appropriate for children. This usually happens at a little bit younger age, but given that ADHD children lack in maturity by 30%, it makes sense that he may do this later.
The key would be to talk to him about appropriate places for this behavior....not in public...etc, and hope for the best...speak to his therapist next time he has an appointment...I am just a lowly preschool teacher.....

My 5 year old had this problem a couple years ago and at the time he was in therapy they reffered to it as excessive goping because he could not get his whole opinion acrossed (he didn't talk) this went on long after he could talk 2 years!!! Anyways I would open the door at the store to my van to get him out and he would be pulling his pants together or we would watch some TV or a movie and look over and he would be involved with his doodle So we told him over and over again if there is something you need to do with that thing do it in the bathroom. After a while he got the picture. I had someone tell me they had an older child with this problem and she would have to be sent to her room, she did not like being uprooted from the living room where she was enjoying TV to continue her groping. Eventually she stopped. You are not alone it drives me nuts.

:-*Try being the person saying it with the straight face!!! ;D If you laugh they think it's funny and they continue. His little Doodle has been quite the little trouble maker in public. Mom I gotta go to the bathroom (at a store) and he is pulling out in the frozen food section. WWWWOOOAAAHHH! Put that thing back in your pants. My neighbor has this little phrase. It's the first toy he was ever given it goes every where with him and it changes size when you play with it. So it's a guarantee that he's is going to play with it! My mother in law used to tell her boys in thier bedroom or the bathroom. I didn't like the idea of him going in his bedroom to do this, so I limited it to the bathroom. He is much better now, but that thing was the best name I could give it to detour him from playing with it in public. He is 5 and we still have issues with toilet edicate in public. It's a work in progress

Oh my gosh, you have me laughing even harder. I know it wasn't funny, I'm sure, at the time in the supermarket. I know I've been in the store and have heard little boys say Mom I have to go potty and grab their crotch and do a little dance and I just had to laugh then. Hey, they just don't know the rules yet. LOL But what your neighbor says pretty much says it all. ROTFLMBO

My husband would like to add his little piece of wisdom to this thread. He likes to say to our son when we are trying to get him to understand that it is innappropiate to whip it out. His favorite phrase is "If you play with it to much it could fall off" I can't keep the straight face during that so our 5 year old does not believe it. His doodle has been a problem since birth. He peed on the nurse that was going to give him his first bath (she was telling a nurse right before that she doesn't usually get peed on). He peed into a sink at the Dr's office when they insisted it would be ok to weigh him without his diaper. It was quite humorous. After so many years you think you would have it down but something comes up and makes you laugh everytime. It's hard
