Shannon's teacher contacted me today. She was chosen to attend a workshop for HS kids who have learning disabilities. Her teacher is attending & will drive Shannon & a few others who were also chosen. The school will pay the 125.00 fee for the kids , which also includes a luncheon. The day will be broken down into several sessions,including Developing Self Determination, Future Planning & Secondary Goals, Self Discovery, and Advocacy Skills. Its this Friday. It also counts towards her community service she needs for graduation. She is super excited to go! I Can't wait t hear what all she learns there. I love that the school provide opportunities like this one!

it went really well! She said there were about 30 to 40 kids there plus their teachers. The first half of the day they were all together & then after lunch the teachers went to another section & the kids were split into smaller groups & went in those groups from workshop to work shop. The leaders were all young & related well to the kids. There were kids with all kinds of disabilities there from LD's to physical disabilities. Some had service dogs, which were a big hit Shannon said. LOL She made several new friends & learned a lot about how to advocate for herself after HS. AND she said she didn't feel the anxiety that she would have before the meds. She participated & got a lot out of it so it was a great success on many levels!
