My 4th grader was given a language evaluation that included: TOLD-I 4 and TOPS 3: Elementary. This test was administered by the school at my request.
Here composite score on the TOPS 3 test was:
Raw Score: 129 Percentile Rank: 19 Standard Score: 87
Their report indicates that her score is in the average range. If 19% is considered "average" than what is defined as "below average"?
Her weakest areas on the TOLD were Sentence Combine (37 percentile), Picture Vocabulary (37 percentile) and Morphological Comprehension (37 percentile). Again, these were all identified as average scores.
On prior WIAT Achievement tests, she has also done very poorly on the pseudoword decoding subtest.
In practice, I feel like my daughter can read a fictional story pretty well, but she really struggles with comprehension on instructional text, math word problems and non fiction material. She is struggling in school and homework has become really problematic because she often gets 1/2 of it wrong on the first pass and we spend hours redoing it.
The school is telling me that she does not have a language-based LD (that her language is testing average), but something is off. Currently, her only diagnosis is ADHD-inattentive type.
I would welcome any insight on what may be going on or how I should investigate this area further.

Our moderator who understands and can help with this type of test score is away for a while and doesn't have internet access. She said if she can get to a computer she will respond. Check this site out. They should be able to help you. millermom.proboards.com/index.cgi
