Hi Xmansmom! We are so glad you joined us! We have members at all stages...those just starting out with ADHD & those who are old hands at it. As a mom of a 13 year old ADHDer myself, I can tell you that I never stop learning! Please feel free to post in any of the sections. We are certainly supportive & I've found that when the members here put their heads together, we can come up with a strategy for almost any problem.

Welcome!
I'm very glad you found us and hope you didn't have any problem getting to the actual roadmap site to order your kit. I can't wait to get mine! I hope they get many orders for them.
We have the best group of people on the internet right here, so I hope you decide to make yourself at home. The knowledge and experience of our members is great and every one of them is willling to do their best to help each other. I love them all and I'm sure you will also once you get to know them.

Wonderful to have you join our group. I'm a concerned Auntie - probably the only one on this site who isn't a parent of an ADHD child. My 12 year old niece has been DX'd ADHD but we don't think that is the whole story.
Anyway, a big welcome to you!

Hi everyone,
I just noticed the ADHD roadmap site too. Unfortunately, being in Australia, I am unable to order the pack. No doubt it will be full of wonderful information, and too much to post on here, but if anyone comes across anything they find new and intersting, I would love to hear about it.
Thanks, Andrea

Thank you all so much! Well I finally got a few minutes to myself.. kids fed and in bed! So I thought I'd log in.... Now, I was roaming through and I keep reading about 504's and IEP's... Could someone explain what these are...? I understand that they have something to do with school.... (Newbie question.. lol!)

Sure!
Students with disabilities requiring only reasonable accommodation must have a written plan under Section 504; this is commonly referred to as a 504 plan. This will allow them certain accomodations which can help them learn better (like allowing them more time on tests, giving them less homework problems, etc depending on what it is determined the child needs). 504 plans should be developed by a committee, consisting of the student with a disability (if appropriate), the student's parents/guardians, the student's teacher, the student's counselor, and the 504 coordinator. The plan should be updated at least annually.
For students with disabilities who require specialized instruction, there is a plan called an Individualized Education Program, known as an IEP. A student's IEP is a legal document which, sets forth the duties and responsibilities of the school district and staff regarding that student. The IEP Team determines whether a child needs positive behavioral interventions and supports. The IEP is a plan which describes the child's skills and needs, outlines a plan of specially designed instruction to take advantage of those skills and respond to those needs, and establishes educational goals and objectives or benchmarks to be achieved during the next year. The plan is to be reviewed each year and more often if parents or teachers request it.
My daughter has an IEP with specific goals to help her with her math & lang. arts LDs. She also has goals written in to help with organization. She is also allowed to go to learning support class for tests, allowed more time when needed, etc. Shes progressing quite well.

Thanks! Xavier(xman) has had such a hard time with reading and writing. Before he was diagnosed he was in tutoring for reading for 3 years( in school and during the summer)... I felt so bad for him.. He still has difficulties with Reading and Writing, and i guess now since school just started...I should probably meet with his school counselor and request a meeting to see what is being done... Thank you again for taking the time to explain. Yall are really great~

You're Welcome!
You might want to take a look in the LD sections here...even if your son isn't LD, you might find some good tips to help him with his reading & writing. Feel free to post questions in any of the boards here too.
