If he is having a great deal of trouble with reading and writing, you may want to check out the dyslexia and dysgraphia boards. It can be the result of processing problems due to the ADHD but it could also be something else which is in addition to ADHD. Knowing defintitely can help you make the right decisions as to what to include in the IEP.

Depending on your son's school district getting an IEP or a 504 can be quite difficult. I tried all last year when my son was in kindergarten only to be denied on 3 separate occasions. When school starts again, if there is not a dramatic improvement I think my only option is to get an advocate. I know in my heart of hearts that Sean has some type of LD(s) and I won't stop until he's getting the help that he needs. Some districts are great about this. I'm not trying to scare you LOL but you just can't walk in and say I want an IEP, and they say OK great-here you go. Sometimes it is a real battle and you can't give up if you don't feel Xavier is getting the help he needs. I know Sean's school is still trying to convince me that it is "normal" and "acceptable" for an almost 7 yr old child to not recognize letters. I hope you have an easy time with this all -we are all here for you if you have any questions.

Hey Ladies, guess what? I just seen the TV commercial for the ADHD Roadmap and they give all of you that participated a little shout out! The announcer is explaining what the ADHD Roadmap is and then he says "This was developed by professionals and parents of ADHD parents!" I thought it was so cool. I instantly thought of all of you who went to New York. So good work ladies...I can't wait to see what it consists of!

I got mine yesterday too. I thought it was put together very well, very sleek and informative. I think for the parent of a new ADDer, it will be helpful. I do like how it consistantly expressed our kids in a possitive and hopeful way.

I think I was expecting a little more of "something" too but I'm not sure what that something might have been either. And like Bugs said, it does give someone who is brand new to ADHD to get off on the right path. I too appreciate how they presented the positive sides of ADHD. I give them 1 1/2 thumbs up.
