I was mocked, harassed and forced to learn to fight because of this. The problem was that I couldn’t write. At a young age, I was diagnosed with dysgraphia. What is this? Basically, it means I write how a dyslexic peSrson reads. If I struggle with writing so much, how do I write every week for Chimes? Follow the link at the top for the full article. tridI am going to print this out for my 8th grader and my 6th grader, both dysgraphic homeschooled kids who HATE to write, for obvious reasons. Patrick, the 8th grader, recently wrote a wonderful creative ending to a story starter. I didn't think he had it in him, and was so tickled to see his creativity shine through. I want him to see that he holds his own key to expressiveness. He has been identified as a gifted learner, with an IQ of 139. Unfortunately, he learned that the "label" could be used as a mask. He is already a black belt in Kempo Karate, and has started his Eagle Scout project. He understands self discipline in other areas of life, but writing is a daunting. He has discovered that it is easier to "not try" to write, than it is to try and "fail". What he needs to learn, is that you cannot let yourself down, if you do what is in your own best interest!
