Wow...I always just thought I was stupid in math. In high school I was in accelerated English, honors Anatomy and Physiology, and Histology, yet I just squeaked through pre-algebra with a D.I also took business math and couldnt pass an open book test. I never finished college because I couldnt even get out of the non credit course you have to take to get up to college level math. I did everything else I needed for my associates but could not do the math. I am scared of anything to do with money-I cant make change in my head-I absolutely panic when I have to work the snackbar at my sons baseball game. I have a whole bunch of these symptoms. Why wasnt this around when I was in school-maybe I couldve gotten some help.

I know what you mean, Katie. My daughter has dyscalculia & I see alot of myself in her. I was HORRIBLE at math. Lucky to get a D. You have to wonder if life would've been different if we could've gotten the help thats now available to our kids.

My kid has the exact issues outlined on these areas and site links. Thanks to you all for doing the research for me!!!
When my head is feeling more clear i will give you a brief update on my girls sitauation and why it has been a challenge.

Well, I don't know whether my son has dyscalculia, but I obviously do! Too bad I had to suffer so much in school. Is this genetic??

So true Notellin-back when I was in school I was just"lazy" and"not trying hard enough". I remember asking my mom in high school if she would get me a math tutor-she told me if I can get good grades in other classes I can in math too. Now that Im going to go back to college I have decided first Im going to only take math for the first semester and no other classes. Maybe I can get my 5th grader to help me-he laughs when I count on my fingers.

Did you hide your hands under the table in high school when you counted on your fingers? That's what I did!! I got so sneaky, no one noticed. LOL.

YES THAT' S ME TOO. I still count on my fingers- FINGERS RULE!!! I use to count underneath the table too. Oh i am quite embarrassed about this but i use to count on my toes and teeth too. Especially when i was in the junior years at school as i found counting really hard when i was wee. Now i just count my fingers.
