Finding math gaps? The school pyshc and team that is helping my daughter said they are doing further testing to find the gaps she has and then from there we will develop a plan. In hindsight I did not ask them what the tests were and wonder if there were good tests for doing this? When I signed the team plan all that it said was there would be futher tests in math.
The physc was supposed to test her thursday and this monday - but she said they did not pull her out of class to test her?

This does not directly answer your question, but it does state what cognitive issues can play into math disabilities. When children are tested for disabilities, they are tested in the cognitive areas believed to be associated with the disability, so this article may help you understand why certain tests were used. I'll keep researching to see if I can come up with specific tests. I'm an LA person, not math, but I'll do some research: www.schwablearning.org/articles.asp?r=1001

Cool thanks. My daughter said they pulled her outta of 1st period and tested her on shapes and number orders and patterns - she said it was difficult - i am not sure what the test was called though.

Well, surprise - the second physc report came in with very specific information on it and the conclusion is that the kid has a learning disability - geeeeeze!! Here we are from august to now and they figured it out? So I am waiting for the next meeting now. I will have to ask abou the numbers tommorow as the paper is on my desk at work, but this time they list very specific items she cannot do and ones she needs help with in math. She tested in the 3rd percentile, meaning that a population of students in her grade, 97% would be expected to achieve higher than her. Her state test scores have fallen 16 points since the last time and now with the new testing there is a clear discrepancy for the formula they no longer have to use under IDEA - but they do.
Some of the kids scores are scary to me and I wonder how the school is really going to help her? On some of the testing there are scores that show <1? They also show it in blacked out blocks and 75% of here tests fall in the lowest block with one being in the middle high category (geometry).

LCDC, many, many hugs your way. I know how I felt when my son got a <1% in handwriting last year. But, you know what? His handwriting is improving. It's slow, but it's happening. Just keep accentuating her strengths, and make sure the IEP is written in such a way that she is not penalized for her weaknesses, while they are remediated. Things will get better. It takes time, but time is a friend to kids with LD's.

Thats really tough Lcdc. Its hard to believe that she got as far as she did without anyone realizing she needed a lot more help than she was getting. Now that they know, hopefully the interventions they come up with will really help her.

I got back in town early from my docs appt so I decided to pop in and pick my oldest up from school, so I had to go to the front desk and get a note to her to not get on the bus - then I had to wait 20 minutes til the bell rang. I ran into everyone in the hall, the school physc, the principal, the counselor, and 2 of my kids teachers!!! The physc talked to me for 5 minutes about the recent testing, then the principal came down the hall and he was totally in the know about the situation with my kid!! He asked if the next meeting was set, I said I did not know, he grabbed the special Ed teacher right there and told him to get it done then I asked the principal what he thought of the test results and then I asked him the objective of the next meeting and what was the schools official determination this time? He said Oh no doubt about it, a clear LD!!! I said Ok, so does that mean we meet again after that to develop a plan and would that mean that the plan would not be in effect til 8th grade next year? He said OH no, we will get things in place right away!! It pays to pick your kid up from school once in awhile!!!
