katiekat........Thread Started on Sept 1, 2006, 12:17amSince Charlie suggested it the other day I have been doing alot of research on CAPD. Many of the things I read sound alot like my son. Does anyone have experience with CAPD? Would I bring this to the attention of the Child Study Team or his teacher? Any suggestions? mistyHeres a great article in PDF format to start you off: www.scilearn.com/alldocs/mktg/10035-952MYoungCAPD.pdfAnd one more great one: www.iser.com/caparticle.htmlCharlie GirlSome schools will do language testing to determine if a child qualifies as Speech-Language Impaired. That is covered under IDEA but CAPD isn't. You can have him tested for those to get an idea as to whether he is likely to have it. If he has unusually low CELF or OWLS scores, you can then have him privately tested. Some schools will pay for that and some won't. You may have to pay for it yourself but its in his best interests if you possibly can have it done. Auditory processing tests like the SCAN and SSW are only administered by developmental audiologists or specially trained Speech/Language Pathologists. That is what you will need to determine CAPD (often now called APD).
