Every day without fail when I pick Sean up from school he asks "can so-and-so come over"? right in front of the kid and the mom. It drives me nuts and I feel put on the spot like I have to say yes. Sometimes I have things to do and sometimes I just dont feel like dealing with it. I have told him to ask me privately first before inviting people over but he's not getting it. Any ideas?

Incorporate it into a reward program? He has to earn a certain number of marbles to earn a playdate? Maybe leave a jar in sight with marbles in it, and tell him not to ask you until he has earned the number of marbles that he needs. Actually, that's pretty cool because it gives you major leverage to get some behaviors in line. It would also give you an easy out when he puts you on the spot---"sorry, but you haven't earned enough marbles for a playdate yet"--discussion over!

Charlie GirlI had to tell my son that no friends could come over after school unless he had asked me before school started that day. If he wanted someone to come after that, he had to wait until we got home before I would consider it. In the mean time, I find that no one can take offense when you say you have too much to do. Sometimes that even works out that the other parent will offer to take your kid for a while. As long as you reciprocate, you have it made. mistyIt doesn't bother me one bit to say no right in front of Shannons friends. Sometimes I think she asks me in front of them on purpose, thinking I won't say no...but she has another thing coming! I've even said right in front of her friends "You didn't ask first & you know you aren't allowed to have friends over without asking first"..who knows, maybe I'll teach the whole group a lesson! crazyhouseJake does everything but drag the child down the street behind him. To try and get them to come over. Drives me nuts :-*plus I live in a small mobil home 800 sq ft not alot of room to invite people over to. Parties at my house are cramped! Sometimes I feel like I am chasing a runaway train with Jake. I want to try that with the marbles I think that might help
