ok. I hope I got this right but you also have a teen or a preteen.
cheryl will be 13 at the end of the month and this week end I got a full blown teen attack.
she wanted to go to the horse barn and wrok but hadn't done homework so I said no. My goodness did we see an evil teenager
well she got her homework done and was able to go for two hours.
Dh was saying I think her adhd is worse now and I said this has nothing to do with adhd this is all teenager.
the adhd of curse was causing her not to focus on her homework

Yes, I have a 12 year old & she sounds alot like your teen! ARRGGHH! I hate those attitude tantrums they have!
Last week Shannon didn't clean her room as she was supposed to. So when she asked to take the dog on a walk, we said no. Same thing, we had an overblown reaction in the form of a HUGE FIT from her! When she finally calmed down, she did end up cleaning her room & it didn't even take her that long!
It amazes me how suddenly the tantrums & attitude come on, how violent the mood swings can be, but I guess we'll live through it. I wonder how my mom managed with 2 pre-teen/teen daughters?

I don't have any kids at home any more but my poor sister sure knows what you are talking about. Her daughter is 12 (ADHD) and has a mouth on her!! And once she get a notion in her head you won't hear the end of it. I'm not sure what part of it, if any is the pre-teen stuff or ADHD or just nagging/yelling because my niece knows she may eventually get her way.
In your case 'm not really sure I would have allowed her to go to the horse barn at all - considering her attitute - but then I'm not in your shoes and what you had to go through to get her to do the homework first. Maybe next time - the longer she is mouthy the less time she would get at the horse barn and keep taking the time away the more she nags/throws a fit. Yes, I know...easier said than done.
Other than that, I sure don't have any good suggestions so I hope someone else will.

The funny thing about the whole tantrum was she was more made at me then anything...but once I said she could go to the barn she was fine, but when she got home and after supper I went into her room and quized her on her home work and hung out with her and she was as sweet as pie and even said thank you after I helped her put her clothes away.... ;D
JJ...I agree, about the barn, but at the time I really needed her to go away for a while so i could think...my dh was made too , but she did get her homework done, so I felt that she could go...
I can be a softy at time.

I lucked out with my daughter at that age. She waited until she was 15 to make my life miserable and then she really made it worth her while. I had become quite lax in discipline because she was so well behaved and never gave me a moment's worry. I won't make that mistake again.
It looks like my son who will be 12 in April is going to make up for it though. I just hope he gets over it as an older teen and I don't have to live with it until he turns 18 and leaves home.
I don't know what else we can do other than to set the rules and do whatever we have to do to enforce them. If we don't draw the lines now, its only going to get worse.

::)Those pre-teen years are the worst! been there and I sure do not want to go back!
