I don't know if anyone else has this problem but mornings around here with Sean are disastrous. He does everything but what he should be doing. With me trying to get ready for work I cannot be tailing him like I need to so while I think he's eating breakfast and getting dressed he's actually playing Yugio cards in his PJs. This week I came up with a solution and so far so good. I made a chart with a picture of his clothes, a bowl of cereal, and his toothbrush. Next to each picture I put a little piece of velcro and I made big checkmarks that I cut out of posterboard and colored and put velcro on the back of them. Before he can do ANYTHING fun he must "check off" the things he needs to do. Once everything is done the rest of the morning is free. He thinks it's fun so now he's in a big rush to get the list completed.

Great idea, KK!! I love it!
Shannon used to be bad in the mornings too. When I went to get my shower, she'd get on the computer. So I when I came down there she'd be, still in her PJ's not having eaten yet, & then it'd be a mad rush & a bunch of arguing & crying to get her out the door. I ended up taking computer privileges away. To earn computer time in the morning, she had to be COMPLETELY ready first. Whatever time she had left over before time to go she could go on. Well, she started getting up earlier & earlier...now she gets herself up between 5 &6 each morning, gets ready & still has well over an hour to play computer games! LOL
With our kids, whatever works GRAB it!

I love that idea! It can be reused so you don't need to keep putting up new charts. Very innovative!

Awesome! The visual stuff really works, and you've tossed in manipulatives too.
When he gets to 2nd grade, you'll just be able to write a list, and he can check them off. That's what my son does.

I started in 1st grade with a chart that had pics on it. It had things that needed to be done in the morning and I had one for at night with tasks that needed to be done before play time. It seemed to work. Now we have a written chart with tasks for all day, it helps sometimes, other times it doesn't and we have the blow ups like you have. Hope he continues to enjoy the charts for a while.

Katie, good for you that you came up with such a great idea. Becca is still a bit rough in the mornings. I make sure she gets her clothes together, jewelry, makeup, whatever she needs for the next day in the bathroom and ready before she goes to bed. That seems to help a lot to prepare the night before. Now if only she could pay attention to the time and get out to the bus without me reminding her every 15 minutes what time it is it would be heaven.

I need to put one together myself for mornings are nightmares. First off my child hates to get out of bed and I have to literally dress her most days and too me she is so distracted by her own agenda most days and seems lost.
