My boy (10) is an excessive talker on school days. its not that he is bad, he is being really exciting and positive in his one way discussions lol
the problem is I am NOT a morning person and I have actaully got to the point now of telling him to shut up, to the detriment of him obviously, he gets very hurt.
anyone have any ideas on helping me shut him up -just a tad so i can actually have a thought in the mornings which is really hard for me to achieve without noise?
if you do let me know.
cheers rae.

I recall this used to be a problem for my two boys. The adhder was talkative in the morning (before meds kick in) and the nonadhder was not. Later in the day after school, nonadhder was excitable and talkative while it drove the adhder (meds still active) nuts. I tried to explain to them the difference in their individual body rhythms, but the best strategy was to have them eat breakfast in different rooms and plan their morning routine so their paths didn't cross too much. Good Luck!

Oh boy is this a problem in my house. First of all I literally sneak out of my room in the morning because before anyone speaks to me I need that first cup of coffee and a cigarette. If Sean hears me come out of my room he accosts me before I make it out of the doorway. I am not a morning person either and I really cant take it. I try to explain to him that if hr has something meaningful to say or ask I will be glad to listen to him but Im not going to listen to him talk just to hear himself talk. If he has nothing to say he will start asking me things like"whats 1 thousand plus 1 million" and a bunch of other math problems or ridiculous questions. I just respond with "is that important right now or should you be eating breakfast?" He's starting to catch on. He'll start to say something and then say never mind it's not important. Dont feel too bad about losing it once in a while believe me I have resorted to the "CAN YOU JUST SHUT YOUR MOUTH FOR 30 SECONDS!!!" more than once.

I remember all of the questions and the way I dealt with them when I really didn't want to respond, was to ask, "what do you think?" Then I learned that turning the question back to him was quite appropriate and offered him the chance to figure it out. It is the repetitive nonsensical responses in the morning before meds kick in that can drive people nuts around here. It is usually about squirrels, don't ask me why. At a certain point we ask him to leave and go get dressed or something.

Sometimes Tiff can get going in the morning. I guess I am lucky to be the morning person and she is not.A lot of her talking is talking back to me in the morning, because she is still tired and not ready to get up. On the weekends I notice it more. She can spit out 20 questions in 2 minutes. And wow overload for me sets in. I just ask her to think about what she is asking me and to try to remember some of the answers, a lot of which she knows and as JFLA stated I put it back in her corner. We have the same routine on Saturday mornings. We get up, eat, go to Michael's to do a craft, eat lunch (time permitting) and then ice skating lessons. But she'll get up and ask what we are doing and when. By me putting it back on her, she says oh yeah and moves onto something else.
Hope it gets better for you!

DUCK TAPE !!!!! I'm kidding of course!
I had to say that because Jake is such a motor mouth it never stops! He goes on and on and on! I understand how anyone can loose it in that situation. I myself have tried numerous amounts of times to play the be quiet for a quarter game, or saying phrases like motor mouth ZIP IT! and for sure Do you ever shut up has flown out of my mouth just at absolute wits end! It's ok and very normal. Good Luck
