Kids don't look that far ahead, thats the problem. And it doesn't help that they see teens working at McDonald's or K-mart with multiple piercings & bad attitudes. Shannon wants her lip & eyebrow pierced..and a tattoo....of course I said no & she went into her crappy attitude right away. I told her that one day she's going to be going for an interview for a real job & although they'll give another reason, an employer will turn her down because of that look. She just doesn't get it at all. Sure she might get hired at a store in the mall, but what about when she finishes college & is interviewing for a job in her field? She'll make quite the impression with her body parts all pierced, tattoos sticking out & saying "Yo Dude".

I get the smart mouth too depends on her week and I have ODD in the mix not just ADHD and I can wait for the teen years trust me. I dread the years to come I am getting a lot of teen cases voluntary parents having difficulties and gee they have ADHD/ODD. I am getting them for my supervisor feels it is a good match since I understand it and I have been sharing with clients about my girls diagnosis and leave it at that and they appreciate me more.

;D Oh yes ... that "Smart mouth" which seems to last for a longgg time .. The worst bit to me was my son saying right back to me at times things that I had said to him! ... Examples were "I have told you Mom MORE THAN ONCE .... " ... and "Will you please just stop talking and LISTEN! .. " and "I don't know how many times I have to say this to get my point across but I will say it AGAIN" ... OMG !! That drove me nuts !!

Having a blast around here with the smart mouth too! Josh has always had a grumpy attitude, but the smart mouth is pretty new, about 6 months now. I swear, it takes all of my strengh not to go ballistic! Uni, what I've tried to REALLY drill in Josh's head is that his smart mouth is just down right disrespectful. I will not put up with him talking to me, or any other adult in that manner. This has been rough. I know a lot of it is just kid attitude, but many times he crosses the line. He's also worked with his psychogist on this. She's really made a point to him that his words are powerful, they can either hurt or help others. I so know what you mean though...it can drive you nuts.

Not only does Becca have a smart mouth but teeth that she still has to be reminded to brush. I have to deal with that too and she's 13 like Shannon. I constantly have to remind her. I ask her how she can go out of the house with crusty teeth. If it wasn't for my reminding her all the time they probably would have fallen out long ago, LOL. I do find that the less I raise my voice the less she does. She still does have the attitude and interrupts all the time. I keep blaming myself that she's the way she is. I was pleasantly surprised this morning when she actually asked me to pray for her to have a good day. Just hearing her use the word pray made my day.
