Not for Chase, for ME! He got himself up this morning before 6 AM and ready to get on the bus. He is determined to ride it every morning, but I am prepared to drive him if necessary....it comes at 6:50 and I think after the newness of getting up that early wears off, he will not do it quite so nicely...
They will be home literally in minutes, and I am anxious to see how Chase made out today switching classes in the big middle school...he has been switching for a couple years, but the halls are not so crowded in the elementary.....hope he did okay...

How did Chase do? I would be a nervous wreck too, if it was Tiff riding the bus. I'm sure he did fine. What a big step into the world of independence. You should be proud!

He did fine I guess...he rode the bus last year too, but had some issues from time to time...luckily, around here, many kids stop riding kind of young due to older siblings/cousins driving them to school once they get their licenses....so it is mainly only til sophomore year at the oldest on the bus, and jake is there to look after him.
He said he got to almost all his classes on time, was tardy a few times due to locker combination problems, and I saw that coming. Last night at the open house, jake and I had to remind him a few times to go PAST the 2nd number then come back to it....and he was confused as to direction to turn it....I am sure that is common the first few days, so he will get the hang of it....then the bells confused him at lunch time....but nothing major.
I went through the mass of paperwork that was sent home with him and the math teacher had a letter that she sent home for students and parents to sign and on that the supplies listed which include a calculator that says "issued to you in 6th grade". Oops! He skipped 6th grade math....soo I called the school and they are gonna issue him one...then he says after I tell him I took care of it..."I know mom, Miss _____ already told me she would get me one...." HA! Jake says, "See, mom, you just need to relax!"

Puzzled i was the same way when my son started middle school. I brought him to school and was standing out front with him, he was telling me i could go home.lol I was just used to elementry school. We dont meet teachers until the first day of school and i would always go in and introduce myself and he didnt want that to happen when he started middle school. But when i picked him up that first day he said he loved it. Him loving school wore off quickly but he did like having to change classes.

Look at this email I just got from Chase's pre algebra teacher. I really love this school!
Hello! I just wanted to let you know I have issued Chase his calculator. I had told him yesterday I would have it ready for him today. His calculator has the numbers 06-119 etched on the back of it for ID purposes.
Also, today, we took our first set of notes (they were pretty short). I had a copy ready for him, but he wrote the notes we took himself on looseleaf paper. I kept an eye on him, he seemed to keep up well and had the entire set of notes on his paper. If it is okay, I will continue to have him copy the notes himself and keep a close eye on him. If they are long or he seems to be falling behind or getting frustrated, I will give him a copy for that day. He participated well in the discussion when going over the examples.
We did not have an assignment today, but I plan to give one tomorrow (if we have a regular day). It will be on pg 14-15 #14-28 even and #35a-b and 36 in the textbook. We will spend quite a bit of class time working on the assignment, but what is not completed in class will be homework.
Let me know if you have questions.
Thanks! Jennifer ______

I love that teacher so far. She is allowing him the experience and watching to make sure he is managing before she steps in with help. Wow!

What an awesome teacher! This is the way ALL teachers should approach our kids. Chase is a lucky kid to have such an understanding teacher. Kuddos to her!

I know it! I have been so happy for him. And this is the class I was most worried about...the teacher could have resented the fact that I kinda got him put in there....
I love that she is letting him attempt to take the notes, and keeping her eye on him...I replied to her email and told her that my ultimate goal, of course, to have Chase responsible for all his notes, and this was a good way to build up to that.
I love her! And the math teacher that teaches regurlar 6th grade math is a real downer.....won't explain anything more than once...if you don't get it the first time, too bad, she will tell children that. I am glad Chase does not have to have her.
