Does any of your kids make noises at inappropriate times? Every evening Shannon gets loud & obnoxious with noise. She'll talk in weird voices, make strange noises, crack herself up & laugh like crazy. It;s hard to explain without hearing it yourself. She knows she's doing it & she knows it annoys the heck out of us. It seems to start out as just being silly & then escalate until we're yelling at her to just go upstairs or be quiet. It only lasts an hour or so & then its over as suddenly as it started. I'm wondering if she's just letting out energy that has no where else to go because it's winter & she's stuck inside so much. I mean she's 14...I thought she'd be through this stage already.

Is it after dinner? Ok, this is funny so sorry if I seem like I'm making light of your situation...but my husband does this! It's always after dinner. He starts to whistle, and be-bop and tap his hands on the table. He'll use anything as a drum, even my shoulder. He just goes off. At some point, all of us, kids included, just look at him and he'll slow down and stop and say, "What?" He won't even know he does it, until we point it out to him. He's even done it at my mom's house and I've had complete conversations about it with my step father while he's doing it and he doesn't even notice. I'm just thinking, as she gets older, maybe she'll carry different tunes. I just pass it off as an increase in sugar in the system. So, yeah, she may just have a little burst and that's how it comes out. Sometimes, my 3 y/o daughter joins in. I mean, she knows the Mario Brother theme song and she's never even seen the game! (Yes, that is one of his songs.) One night he was switching from Star Wars theme music to Indiana Jones. Then my son asks, "Is Hans Solo and Indiana Jones the same guy?" I just chuckled since he realized the relationship of dad's "music". I answered Yes. But I don't think dad even realized he was singing the two songs together. Anon

Interesting. And scary to think that she may never outgrow this It is after eating that she starts. Usually after her evening snack. I can't stop feeding her so I guess I just have to learn to live with it...I would rather have the singing than the noises. Even the cat runs away when she hears Shannon starting up.

Misty, My niece has done this as long as I can remember but she can do it any time, not just after dinner or eating (I don't think) but yes, the whole bit like Shannon, thinking whatever she is doing is extremely funny when the truth is, everyone is getting annoyed and even telling her to please stop. It's like they are on some sort of high. I remember when she was younger she could go on all day doing whatever the current odd noise was but as she got older it seems it doesn't last as long.

Hmm, maybe get the family a set of ipods. When she starts, just plug the music on.

That puppy graphic is too cute. And to add more about that "high" thing. I do know that no matter what kind of threats made for my niece to stop only seems to stimulate her to do it more and the more funny she thinks it is. It's like there is absolutely no control at all.

Same here JJ. When we start ignoring her is when she'll finally start to wind down...usually. There are times when even that doesn't work. It seems to have to run its course.
