This morning is Sean's I&RS meeting. I told them they might as well wait until February, after his psych. appt. but like with so many other things they did not listen to me. And while I feel it is a total waste of my time I will go because if I show up or not the meeting will take place. I dont want them saying to me-well we had a meeting and you weren't here so.... I have a few questions anyway. My main question is at what point will they become concerned about Sean's inability to recognize all his letters and his letter reversal? Back in Oct. they said that if it had not improved by after Christmas then they would start looking into it. Well it's mid January now. Then again June could be considered after Christmas also. I also want to let them know that the opthamologist said that his wearing the eye patch would not cause him to reverse his letters. And the biggie-the Aspergers. I am sure they will poo-poo that possible DX. Well I am mad already and Im not even there yet. Wish me luck!

Well for once I have come away from a meeting with a positive feeling! I LOVE Sean's teacher. She is everything that his kindergarten teacher isn't. She said over and over that "he needs more support from the school." She said he is falling behind big time academically and that he will never make it through the year. She said he needs academic, social, and emotional support. She feels he needs to see the school psychologist more than once a week. She told everyone else that although they may "know" Sean they would have to sit in her classroom and observe him every day for 2 weeks before they understand how serious the problem is. She said she has not really seen any change in him with or without the meds. She said that the CST needs to intervene NOW. The CST person that was there agreed but said to wait to get the evaluation report from the psychiatrist because that will give us more of what we need to get Sean the help he needs. I don't want to get too excited because I have thought we were moving in the right direction before but this is the 1st time that a member of the CST agreed that intervention is necessary.

Oh, KK...it makes a world of difference when you have others to back you up. Sean's teacher sounds like a gem. So happy to hear their moving in the right direction...Yeah!

Thats wonderful KK! Its a big step in the right direction. Just having the teacher on Sean's side and the CST member agreeing that he needs help is such a huge step.

That is good news. I know I am posting kind of late, but if you did not already, either get in writing the minutes or results of the meeting or make your own. Always keep everything in writing. If you want, email them and say something like, "I just wanted to clarify and confirm that this was said at the meeting we had for Sean," provide and list everything on the email. If and when they respond save it and print it out. You never know if you will need it. THey can say anything later. This gives you a papertrail. Also, in future meetings, make them commit to a time frame or actual date as to when things are going to be put in place. Get that in writing as well. If anything, they will start to realize they have to dot their i's and cross their t's.

Today is the monthly meeting. I am curious to see what, if anything comes from the OT eval. I am also wondering if they will have any comment regarding the fact that even though Sean's behavior has improved with the meds he still struggles with academics. He took a spelling test and a math test last week and did not get one answer correct on either. I knew from studying with him he would do poorly-he just does not comprehend. Maybe they will realize that it is more than just behavior. Doubt it though. They dont even seem to care what the teacher says.
