for incoming freshmen was last night! I am not sure where this post should go, so here it is! IF you administrators think it is better in another place - feel free to move it for me! ;D
I was at the high school an hour and a half last night getting ready to begin the registration process and I came out with a massive headache. I went with a teacher friend of mine so she could help me out, no I am not stupid, just ADHD!
It is crazy, there are 2,100 or so students at the high school and it is like getting ready to register for college! I am afraid for Ran, afraid she will get lost in all this!
Ran has another IEP meeting on April 30th, but the high school wants the registration form back April 28th? ARGHHHH. So I drafted a letter to the IEP team requesting that a representative from the high school attend the meeting to tell us what they have to offer to meet Ran's accomodations. I also talked with the lady that would attend briefly last night as she knows me from when she worked at the middle school, she is now the VP of SPED.
The catalog for picking classes is overwhelming to me, it is like 200 pages long! Then they have these things called freshman houses that you have to pick? Then you have to do this counselor thing, then the whole sports registration is nuts!
I need a coach to walk through this stuff to help Ran make the right decisions! OK, I am taking a deep breathe now, SHEWWWWW.

Thats very scary. We have one more year to go before we have to think about that.
I'm sure Ran will be fine. She is so athletic that she is sure to stand out and be admired.

OK, here is something wierd? I went into pick Ran up yesterday for an orthodontist check up and ran into the sped principal. I told him about the form they gave me at the high school and he said that the JR High had already sent over the IEP stuff from them to the High shcool and that all the IEP kids already had thier core classes picked for them. He said they put Ran into math essentials (a mainstream class with an aide). I was like OK, then I left.
But then I got to thinking about that and wondered why they did it first without getting our input? Oh well, Ran wants to be in a mainstream math, so I guess I will just find out more at the 30th meeting. So the only thing we have left to do is for her to pick her electives and turn the form in and wait for the registration letter to come back.

I am not ADHD and it sounds too overwhelming. That's what I was thinking. I was ready to go get a stiff drink after all that and I don't even drink. I don't get it either, LC, why you weren't told what was going on. Well, at least it seems to be taken care of. I assume after this meeting anything additional she needs will be forwarded as well. Try not to worry too much about Ran. If she is pretty outgoing she'll make out fine.

well, continuing on with the school saga - it is an epic tale to me, never ending!
I had to send in the sheet to school with her today that we put her electives on and then she texts me from school with massive frantic messages saying the math teacher filled in her math class and Ran thought it was sped math! I text back, calm down and tell Ran again the the VP had said something different that she would be in Math Essentials with an aide!
Then I just now pick her up from school and the math teacher had put recommended for Algebra which is a middle of the road math class? WTH, I am like what? Ran is like yeah I will be in with my friends, I am like Ran buddy, that is algebra that you have an F in now if you got a grade? Why would you want that class and wht is that teacher thinking?
Then I tell her that I am not agreeable to that and she cries! ARGHHHHH, help me? Then we get home and her weekly report is in the mail with her grades of F's on all the math tests in regular math and I am like babe, this is what I mean. SO I say, OK look we have talked about this and you have to convince me there are ways that you would get help in this type of math class and she clams up to me. So then I bring up the thing about ADD and the info. the physc gave her and I ask if she had come up with a plan to deal with that and she is like I dunno?
I told her I dunno does not cut it and she needs to write her ideas down to me by monday before the meeting so we have time to help make them clear for the meeting, she won't say a word now. I told her look, you can call the physc or I can if you want and he can sit down with you and help you write the stuff out since you won't talk to me about it, she is like NO.
What am I going to do to get her engaged in all this? I am soooooo frustrated with her and all of this right now it is not good.

To Ran and you. Lcdc, She's at that age. She doesn't want to be different, to be seen going into a SPED math class. She wants to fit in, be popular. This is an even bigger issue with her because she does so well in her other subjects and in sports. She's a smart, talented, popular girl, who happens to also have a serious math LD and ADD. She's going to have to come to terms with it, and I can't imagine it being easy for her. It sounds like she may need to talk to her therapist and start working on this issue.
