she always cries & says she just wishes she was normal. Poor thing, it breaks my heart. I just discovered Henry Winkler's book series about Hank Zipzer. Oh, how I had found them many years ago when my now 16 yr. old son was struggling with reading and "normalcy". Henry Winkler is dyslexic, and his character is so much like my LD/ADHD kids that it warms my heart to get inside their heads through HANK. I recommend giving this book series a reading, so that she can read for herself what other kids are doing.

I've seen a lot of parents talking on ADHD boards about how much they love his books for their kids. Thanks for posting about it.

I'm going to have to look for that book series! Also, just an update, I finally have my husband on board & he now agrees with me that we should homeschool. I have been checking out California Virtual Acadamy & will be starting the process tomorrow! I will definately keep everyone posted on this journey. My little Emily is so excited, I can almost see her starting to relax a little already! Keep your fingers crossed for us. ;D

That's just wonderful. I wish you the best of luck in this adventure. I'm so glad she is excited about it. I'll be watching for updates. I'm sure you'll have all kinds of helpful tips to share as well as needing advise. I'm so happy for you and your daughter.

I think that you made the right decision. You are going to watch her blossom in the next few months. I'm so thrilled that your daughter is excited. That's what learning is all about.
Good Luck and please keep us posted on her progress. Even thought we've just begun this journey in homeschooling, please feel free to PM me anytime. We can all support each other this year.

I think that is a K12 program. My boys absolutely loved it, and I couldn't get them to slow down the first few years! Middle school was good, but we didn't like their high school pacing. The elementary stuff was awesome. I have met Bror, the brain behind the screen, and he is so warm and funny and real, down to earth. Best wishes for a fun filled year of education!!!

We're almost ready to begin! I just got off the phone with the placement counselor who said she did very well on her placement tests! I should be getting a call in the next few days with the final approval & then they will ship all of her curriculum & I will officially pull her out of school! Emily is beside herself! Her classes will consist of English (literature, language skills & spelling), math, science, history, art, music & pe! We checked out some of the sample assignments on the website this morning & they look awesome! I hope they call tomorrow, that would make for a wonderful weekend! Thanks for all the advice & support & I will definately let you all know how it goes.

I can't wait to hear how she does with it. I am so expecting her self esteem to jump once she realizes she is capable when she doesn't have to try to fit into someone else's mold.

I can almost see the happy dance. When my son started with K12, he had 3rd grade English, 5th grade history, 6th grade Math, and 6th grade science. We loved almost all the lessons. The English Lit. was interesting and the GUM (grammar, usage, mechanics) wasn't drudgery. They have the system set to alter the patterns of the lessons so you don't get burned out by any one part of English. The best advice I can offer is, don't forget that you do NOT have to do every single Activity in every lesson. Do what makes sense for your child, and don't do the ones that are going to waste her time or aggrevate her. The goal is to master the concept, not beat it into her! Have a wonderful year! I have to say that once I got into the swing of the cyber with the first child, I begged the other two to come home with us, because it was so fun!
