I saw the show too and I agree jj....a lot of it was moms fault! She was way to confrontational with her son I also think there was more going on than ADHD....the little guy was really defiant in other areas! The mom also said the boy had been on and off meds and was off them now.....but she didn't say why!

Did you notice how red that little guys face got when he was mad....I mean he was really mad!!! That wasn't kid drama, that little guy was really out of control with his anger.

I could not relate to anything that I saw on the show. The mother is just at rock-bottom with her management skills. It's like she's got no common sense. The child's frustration level seems to be just spiraling out of control, perpetuated by mom. Practically any mom of an ADHD child could give her useful advise, not just super nanny. The show would have been much more useful if she already had a good grip on managing some of the typical behaviors. Advise on that is everywhere, so she must have her head in the sand. The hitting, biting, and physical restraint was just something else.

I think that Mom was just beat to the ground. The husband was no help, here she was pregnant with 3 kids, one with ADHD and possibly more issues.
My sister has been to the point of just giving up, honestly she has and even talked about taking her daughter to Boy's Town. And my sis has only one child with ADHD (well, I think there is much more going on with my niece) and a 18 year old son that takes care of himself for the most part so I can understand why the Mom was at her wits end. She just basically gave up.
The show was pretty unhelpful but like I said.... At least they are saying ADHD is valid.

I agree jj and I could have throttled that piece of work dad! How dare he come in from work and go upstairs and not come down for an hour! On a cuter note....did you notice at the end of the show where the little girl was eating a pickle? That was priceless the way she was sticking her tongue out over and over on the pickle! It must have been really sour!

You're right jj. I guess I was just a little disgusted because she's so off-target with her approach. She was actually quite nice, and was definately drowning.

I guess I had a little different take on this show. When I seen that they were going to deal with an ADHD kid, my first thought was "Oh no! They won't get this right"! But I was actually surprised with the way they tried to get across what our kids go through. The average person that doesn't deal with ADD on a daily basis dosen't have a clue as to what it is or what we go through. I thought they (the show) at least tried to explain what ADHD was. As for that little boy...I think they are dealing with a little more than ADD. Bless his heart...mine about broke. I felt that the mom was absolutely clueless about ADHD and hadn't made any effort in trying to find ways to work with her kid. With that being said, we have all been there too. I didn't have a clue as to what to do with Josh in the beginning and I only had one child! This poor women has three and one on the way, with no support from her husband, and probably never began to research his disability before the next kid popped out. Her kids were 6, 5, and 2. I know that look she had in her eyes...she had given up. Not that I'm excusing her behavior, it just I can relate.
I felt that even though we didn't get the big picture of what its like living with ADHD, the nanny did give them some good tips to at least start out. I loved when she put the picture up and made her write about all the good things her son was. I was bawling! We all need to be reminded sometimes and I thought that was touching. I think that even if just one person or teacher or friend seen that show and didn't understand a child with ADHD that maybe it would just open their eyes up a little more on how hard it can be. Just my two cents.
Hey JJ...I loved the Oprah show too! I cried through that whole show. Very moving!
